ProAmpac introduces Shelf Protect active packaging for fresh proteins

New active packaging films target spoilage-related microbial growth in meat, seafood and dairy, with performance requiring product-specific validation.

ProAmpac has introduced ProActive Intelligence Shelf Protect, an active packaging platform developed with Copperprotek. The technology is incorporated into food-contact films to reduce microbial growth associated with spoilage in intended food applications.

The company is introducing the SP Series across boneless shrink bags and tubestock, bone-in shrink bags, and forming and nonforming films. Target applications include fresh beef and pork, cooked sausage, deli meat, salmon and fresh cheese.

ProAmpac says the films retain packaging clarity and physical and sealing properties. Actual shelf-life performance depends on the food, processing conditions, initial microbial load and storage, so processors should validate the packaging in their own applications before making shelf-life claims.
