PolyCert Europe has launched PolyCert Food, a third-party certification scheme for recycled plastic materials and articles intended for food contact. The initiative is designed to assess handling and processing against the requirements of Regulation (EU) 2022/1616.
The scheme combines an initial on-site audit with surveillance during a three-year certification cycle. Its requirements address good manufacturing practice, critical control points, quality assurance and batch traceability. PolyCert Europe also provides scheme documents and a public register.
For food packaging procurement, the announcement reinforces the importance of checking the actual certificate, production site and material scope. A recycled-content statement should be supported by traceable documentation, while suitability for the intended food-contact application still needs to be established.
