DIC Corporation and the artience Group, through Toyo Ink, have introduced a common evaluation protocol for the material recycling of flexible film packaging in Japan. The announcement addresses the difficulty of comparing results obtained under different company-specific testing methods.

The framework aligns three elements: test procedures, evaluation criteria and reporting formats. It covers removal of printing ink, separation of laminated film layers and evaluation of the resulting recycled plastic. Common conditions are intended to improve reproducibility and comparison across materials.

The companies position the protocol as a shared basis for Japanese converters, brand owners and recyclers, rather than a global law or automatic recyclability certificate. Their stated aim is to improve material selection and recycling-process decisions through more comparable evidence.
